Recreation & Area Attractions

Local organizations host dinners, socials, dances and seasonal activities throughout the year. School and community sporting events provide year-round fun and excitement for fans and participants alike. Swan Lake, located just outside of Nicollet, is the largest shallow-water prairie pothole in the continental United States with 76 miles of shoreline. It is a sportsman’s paradise in regards to waterfowl. The Nicollet Conservation Club is located on the southeast side of Swan Lake. The Nicollet area also offers excellent snowmobile trails and is just minutes away from several beautiful state parks, Minneopa State Park (Mankato) and Flandrau State Park (New Ulm).

The Nicollet County Historical Society (St. Peter) offers several historical sites to visit, including the Treaty Site History Center, the Harkin StoreFort Ridgely and the E. St. Julien Cox HouseMorgan Creek Vineyards (New Ulm) is a quaint little winery that is a must see if you are in the area. Schell’s Brewery (New Ulm), a favorite stop of beer lovers, sponsors several popular events throughout the year, as well as daily tours. Lodging can be found in Mankato, New Ulm and St. Peter.

The highlight of the year is Nicollet’s Friendship Days which occurs in June, sponsored by the Nicollet American Legion.
